Ms. Dakshayani S. Dalavai, an IIM-Kozhikode alumna, leads BIOSYNK (INDIA) PRIVATE LIMITED, with over 15 years of expertise in sustainable wastewater treatment. She is the visionary behind BioSynk technology, delivering eco-friendly solutions across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Her mission is to create a cleaner, greener future through innovative water management.
Founder’s Journey:
From Stench to Solution - A Mission to Restore India’s Living Waters
Growing up in Chennai, just 300 meters from the Cooum River, I witnessed firsthand how a once-living river could turn into a dead stream of sewage. What was once a lifeline became a health hazard - the stench so overpowering it was difficult to breathe, and daily life became a constant reminder of environmental neglect.
Despite reaching out to local authorities, police, and senior bureaucrats, the situation remained unchanged. The root problems were clear: political apathy, lack of technology, fragmented responsibility, and high-cost, high-maintenance sewage systems that failed repeatedly.

That was my turning point.

Instead of waiting for a broken system to fix itself, I decided to act proactively to protect rivers that were still alive - to prevent the next Cooum. In 2011, I began working as a grassroots environmentalist, engaging in lake restorations, community cleanups, and decentralized sanitation efforts. However, I quickly learned that without tackling sewage at its source, all restoration work would collapse due to inflows of untreated waste.
With a background in water management at Hindustan Unilever, I was familiar with water systems - but sewage was new territory. Still, my love for water pushed me forward. I began a deep, scientific investigation into why conventional STPs failed:

After 4 years of R&D, field validation, and global benchmarking, I developed what became the BioSynk Technology - a zero-energy, zero-operator, sludge-free biological sewage treatment system designed to be community-friendly, cost-effective, and replicable across India.

In 2015, I launched my journey as a social entrepreneur - not just selling a product, but pushing a mission to restore dignity to India’s waterbodies. Every installation is a step closer to that dream - where India’s rivers, lakes, and tanks reflect the same clarity, pride, and purity as seen in developed nations.

Yes, it’s tough. Funding is hard. Convincing people is harder. But the truth is clear: if we don’t act today, our living rivers will become sewers tomorrow.
